Hypoallergenic Earrings
Gun vs Needle for Ear Piercing

1 January 2015

Getting your ear lobes pierced? Then opt for a gun!

Recently there’s been a lot of talk about the benefits of guns versus needles for ear piercing – we thought we’d better clarify a few urban myths and give you the low down on the best ear piercing procedures!

Professional ear piercing guns like Studex and System 75 are the safest and most efficient way to pierce ear lobes and cartilage. These state-of-the-art instruments are designed to minimise pain and maximise hygiene. The earrings are drawn from pre-sterilised vacuum packs and the procedure is completed without any direct touching, minimising the risk of bacteria being introduced by the piercer. After the procedure, the stud cartridges are disposed of in their original pack.

To reduce pain and trauma to your ears, Studex and System 75 earring guns use very sharp fine gauge studs to pierce. Localised trauma is minimal and as the system is spring loaded, it is fast but gentle. Most people feel little or no discomfort during the piercing procedure. It is also safe to use on babies and children.

Needles are ideal for use in body piercings as these are slightly more complicated than ear piercings and often require different angles to be administered and a thicker gauge of jewellery to be inserted. Needles are more painful to pierce with and substantially increase the risk of infection.

Myth: You can’t sterilise piercing guns.

FACT: You don’t need to sterilise the gun as sterilised, safely wrapped and hypoallergenic earrings are used to pierce the ears.

Myth: It hurts more with a gun.

FACT: It hurts less with a gun! Studex and System 75 ear piercing guns are spring loaded with fine, sharp gauge studs, making the piercing fast and gentle.
